In 2016, there were more than 40k hospitalizations for burn injuries with 60 percent of those patients admitted to an American Burn Association (ABA) verified burn center. The reason why patients with severe burns are transferred and treated at one burn center over another is largely unknown and unstudied.
Burn center usage may be due a multitude of reasons including reliable direct access to a burn center, bias of the clinician, location of the referral hospital, inappropriate or under triaging of the patient and differing community outreach strategies at each institution.
This session will examine the development, integration, distribution, usage data and overall lessons learned of a burn center mobile application created at a large academic medical center as a solution to improve community clinician access to a burn center physician.
